RING-TAILED MONGOOSE

  • Origin: Endemic to Madagascar.
  • Habitat: Primarily inhabits the island’s humid tropical forests.
  • Physical Characteristics: Small mongoose with a reddish-brown coat and a distinctively ringed tail of black and white bands.
  • Lifespan: Up to 10 years in captivity.
  • Reproduction: The female gives birth to one or two young after a gestation of about 90 days.
  • Interesting Fact: Galidia elegans is very agile and playful, often seen hunting and playing with its prey before eating it.
